Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator

Position Details
The Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator promotes the mission and goals of Caminar Latino-Latinos United for Peace and Equity by developing and implementing outreach strategies to engage the community, coordinating volunteer programs, building partnerships, and increasing awareness of the organization’s programs and services
Functions and Responsibilities
Community Engagement:

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community members, local organizations, and other stakeholder
  • Organize and attend community events, meetings, and fairs to promote the organization and its initiatives.
  • Analyze and synthesize complex legal and policy information, determine the benefits and drawbacks of existing policies, and make recommendations.

Volunteer Recruitment and Management:

  • Recruit and train volunteers to support program activities.
  • Coordinate schedules and tasks related to outreach events.
  • Serve as lead in the creation of volunteer training program/curriculum.
  • Provide support to Volunteers and the front desk during bi-weekly in-person groups.

Educational Programs:

  • Develop and implement educational programs and workshops to raise awareness about the organization’s mission and services.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts to schools, colleges, and other educational institutions.

Media and Public Relations:

  • Work with the communications team to create and implement outreach materials, including press releases, newsletters, and social media cont
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, representing its values and goals to the public.

Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Available to travel nationally within the United States approximately 25% of the time
Education & Experience
  • Identify as a survivor, youth witness, or individual who has used interpersonal violence against partners and/or family members (Minimum of 2 years of not using violence for individuals who have used violence)
  • Knowledge about Interpersonal Violence

Survivor Advocate

Position Details
Survivor Advocate provides support and resources to Latina/o survivors of Domestic Violence.
Functions and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct services for survivors
  • Ongoing case management
  • Facilitate one or two of the weekly support groups for Latina Survivors
  • Court accompaniment
  • Assistance with Temporary Protective Orders
  • Referrals to shelters, legal services, and counseling services
  • Interpretation
  • Meet with advocates on a weekly basis
  • Attend weekly team meetings
  • Monitor the progress of participants
  • Prepare correspondence for DFCS, Courts, or other agencies when needed
  • Complete the necessary paperwork for each of the participants (i.e. client intake sheet.)
  • Maintain records for program participants
  • Attend local and state trainings about domestic violence and other related topics
  • Participate in outreach initiatives/trainings in the community
  • Other duties as needed
Mandatory Skills & Abilities
  • Be fluent in Spanish and English
  • Understanding of the Latino community and culture
  • Empathic listening
  • Commitment to the agency’s mission and goals
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles
  • Excellent interpersonal and group facilitation skills
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Proficient with computers, 0365, and Zoom
  • Flexibility (including willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oral fluency in English and Spanish is required
