Ericka was born and raised in New York City by her Dominican mother and Ecuadorian father. She moved to Georgia in 2007 where she laid down roots with her husband, Omar, and is raising their two kids, Sophia and Nicolas. As a 20-year education leader, Ericka has devoted her life to transforming education by working to create a more just and equitable educational system and community for all families.
For most of her earlier career, Ericka’s focus as a teacher and district leader in New York City and Atlanta was on instruction and leadership and teacher development. She worked with all stakeholders to break down barriers to learning so that all students could have access to high-quality education. Ericka’s desire to be a more prominent change agent to open endless opportunities for all students to be successful and lifelong learners led her to launch her education consulting company. In 2019, she created Beyond the Resource, an education consulting practice that partners with school leaders in her community to build, retune, and lift the level of instruction, leadership, and culture through professional development and coaching. In 2020, she became a Director of Academics at TNTP, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to end the injustice of educational in public education.
Ericka joined the Caminar Latino Board in 2018 to support the mission of creating transformative opportunities for Latino families. She is a Leadership Georgia (LGA) alumna, a member of the Georgia Association of Latino Administrators and Supervisors, serves as a board member for Sandy Springs Education Force, and is the Equity Officer of the Huntley Hills Elementary PTA.
She has earned her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education, Master’s in Literacy and Literacy Assessment, and Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership.
