Board of Directors

Individual Position Description


Position Purpose
Together with other members of the Board, is legally responsible for all activities of the agency.
Board members are responsible for:
  • Determining the agency’s major policies
  • Approving the annual budget and monitoring/approving the corporate finances
  • Employing/supervising the agency’s executive director
  • Giving direction and leadership to the achievement to the agency’s philosophy, mission, and strategic plan
Individual Board Member Commitments:
  • Prepare for, attend, and participate in at least 4 of 6 Board of Director’s bi-monthly meetings
  • Participate in at least one committee
  • Ensure legal and ethical integrity and maintain accountability
  • Use your skills in a manner that advances the mission of Caminar Latino
  • Abstain from any actions that might lead to a “conflict of interest”
  • Make a thoughtful contribution to the agency
  • To actively participate in the fund development/fundraising and other agency activities
  • Enhance the organization’s public standing by promoting its work within your circles of influence
  • Nurture the future leadership and governance of the Board by submitting strong nominees for vacancies on the Board of Directors
  • Confidentiality
Skills Required:
  • Ability to rise above personal bias/prejudice, for the common good and needs of the organization as a whole
  • Competency to judge an idea on its own merit
  • Ability to respectfully express frank and honest opinions
  • Ability to work in concert with other volunteers and to share partnership with Caminar Latino team (staff) members
  • Ability to tackle willingly each important and demanding task
  • Ability to look at both the present and the future and have vision and perspective
