Board of Directors

Individual Position Description

Position Purpose
Together with other members of the Board, is legally responsible for all activities of the agency.
Board members are responsible for:

Determining the agency’s major policies
Approving the annual budget and monitoring/approving the corporate finances
Employing/supervising the agency’s executive director
Giving direction and leadership to the achievement to the agency’s philosophy, mission, and strategic plan

Individual Board Member Commitments:

Prepare for, attend, and participate in at least 4 of 6 Board of Director’s bi-monthly meetings
Participate in at least one committee
Ensure legal and ethical integrity and maintain accountability
Use your skills in a manner that advances the mission of Caminar Latino
Abstain from any actions that might lead to a “conflict of interest”
Make a thoughtful contribution to the agency
To actively participate in the fund development/fundraising and other agency activities
Enhance the organization’s public standing by promoting its work within your circles of influence
Nurture the future leadership and governance of the Board by submitting strong nominees for vacancies on the Board of Directors
Confidentiality

Skills Required:

Ability to rise above personal bias/prejudice, for the common good and needs of the organization as a whole
Competency to judge an idea on its own merit
Ability to respectfully express frank and honest opinions
Ability to work in concert with other volunteers and to share partnership with Caminar Latino team (staff) members
Ability to tackle willingly each important and demanding task
Ability to look at both the present and the future and have vision and perspective
